Queer World wants to empower the individuals who identify as LGBTQI+.
so that they can become clear and active role models.
A community building programme for LGBTQI+ people with minority backgrounds

"Let me tell you"
Learn how to organise LGBTIQ+ workshops

This module is aimed at resource persons from the Queer World network who want to become visible role models and active participants in society, both inside and outside the organisation. The project started in September 2021, and a course module has so far been developed with the aim of training peer supporters who want to hold LGBTQI+ competence workshops aimed at young people in schools, adult education and asylum centres, as well as other representation assignments. The topics addressed and worked on during the course will help to see the connection between the participants' experiential expertise and how it can be used as a positive and supportive element in the work against negative attitudes and prejudices against queer people with a minority background.

Themes

Training module 1: What we talk about

Who is this for?

This training programme is aimed at anyone who identifies as an LGBTQI+ minority and who wants to take a more active role in working towards a more inclusive society. It is for those who want to take ownership of the queer narrative through workshops and other events in Queer World.

You will meet people from all cultures, religions, genders and sexualities, and it is therefore a strength if you are interested in learning how to create space for learning through dialogue. You do not need previous experience in organising or leading workshops. All levels of experience are welcome. The only knowledge you need is your own experience as an LGBTQI+ person with a minority background. This is a space where we support and learn from each other.

How does the training take place?

The workshops will be held online and published on the learning platform Teachable. Each workshop will provide you with a wide range of tools, both personal and collective, to support LGBTQI+ people from minority backgrounds.

You'll work alongside our experts and trainers and be supported by our healthcare team every step of the way.

Registration and implementation

This workshop has a limited number of places. We aim to confirm participants on an ongoing basis. We'll have an introductory meeting on 2 October and the courses will start the same week.

You can still apply for this date as you will get access to the workshops via Teachable.

You have until the end of the year to complete the course to receive a diploma.

Training module 2: Political training for experience consultants

This training module will focus on political development. A series of themed workshops will give you an introduction to queer issues and the history of oppression of queer people, and how this relates to minority issues. This training will also provide you with tools on how to fight against these issues, through organisations such as Queer World and in other arenas of the political environment in Norway.
