How and why become a member!

Many things have not gone according to plan in 2020, and Skeiv Verdens membership recruitment is one of them. Due to a system breach we have not distributed invoices for membership fees this year. But we do need members to continue doing what we are doing, and we hope and believe any would have supported us if given the opportunity.

Therefore we have now sent out text messages to all previous members on becoming a member for 2020. If you have received an sms like this we hope you can contribute by replying with OK as soon as possible. A membership fee of 100 kr will then be deducted from your phone bill. If you have not received such a text but would actually like to be a member, or you have received a text but prefer paying by other means find info on doing that here .

If you do not have the means to support financially at this time, that is so fine, maybe you can support us by sharing this message in social media or by telling a friend. Your voice is valuable!

I annerledesåret 2020 er det mye som ikke har fungert som det skulle. Blant annet medlemsoppfølgingen til skeiv verden. På grunn av systemfeil har ikke våre medlemmer fått tilsendt informasjon om fornyelse av medlemskap dette året. Men vi håper og tror at det egentlig er mange som ønsker å støtte vårt arbeid og være en del av organisasjonens allierte. Vi har derfor sendt ut meldinger om muligheten for å fornye medlemsskap på sms til alle tidligere medlemmer nå. Hvis du har mottatt en slik sms håper vi du vil bekrefte den med en «OK». Da vil 100 kr trekkes fra din telefonregning. har du ikke mottatt en slik melding, eller har mottatt men foretrekker å betale på annet vis finner du informasjon om å gjøre dette her.

• Your membership status is important for us to prove our reach to our donors. Government funding depends, among other things, on the organizations reach both in numbers and geographically. Skeiv Verden assists queers with migrant backgrounds all over Norway, and even provides information to some people abroad, many whom contact us before coming to Norway. Many of the people we assist are not in a position to become paying members, but with the support from allies we are usually able to keep a decent number of members each year.
• The income generated directly by membership fees are modest. We have made a conscious choice to keep the fee as low as possible so that as many as possible can afford it. The income it does generate is split between the local branches according to where each paying member is located, and spent on the activities they have with members such as skeiv café.

• Support groups relating to substance abuse, intimate partner violence, sexual health, mental health and general wellbeing.
• Social spaces and events like skeiv café, youth groups, FOLK-group(for trans-, non-binary and women), pride parties and gatherings.
• Councelling and guidance to individuals in need of assistance or support. In 2020 we have so far provided councelling to 83 individuals of our community .

• Provide extensive training and guidance for professionals in health care, social services, and other public services. To help them improve in their meetings with queer people with migrant backgrounds.
• We push our elected officials to improve policy for the benefit of our community.
• We assist researchers in documenting needs and realities from the queer community
• And even more.

So when you help Skeiv Verden, you help with alot!
