Skeiv Verden is repeating last year's success, inviting you to a series of workshops where, through the therapeutic approach of dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT), we learn and build skills that can help make real differences in everyday life.
This autumn, Queer World invites you to a series of workshops that are both about learning skills and building a community based on understanding, support and self-care. With a special focus on emotional regulation, self-care and community building, these workshops are tailored for queer people with minority backgrounds. Through a therapeutic approach called Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), participants will learn skills that can make a real difference to their lives.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a research-based treatment method developed by psychologist Marsha M. Linehan. It was designed to help people struggling with emotion regulation and social relationships, and has been shown to be useful for a wide range of mental disorders. DBT combines techniques from cognitive behavioural therapy with mindfulness to help people manage difficult emotions, improve relationships with others, and find the balance between acceptance and change.
DBT is known for its practical skills that can be used in both everyday situations and in crises. It's about learning to regulate your emotions, strengthen relationships and manage stress in a healthy way. For queer people, especially those from minority backgrounds, these skills can be very valuable in dealing with the particular challenges we face.
Queer World's workshops are designed to be both educational and supportive. Over the course of the 15 weeks, you will be introduced to 12 basic DBT skills, which we will practice together in a safe and accepting environment. Each skill has been carefully selected to help you manage stress, sleep better, feel more comfortable in social situations, and communicate more effectively with those around you.
It's not just about learning. It's also an opportunity to meet others who may share similar experiences and challenges as you. By building a community around these workshops, we hope to create a place where you can feel supported and understood.
For those attending, there will also be therapy available during the workshops from Queer World's own therapists. This means you can get individual support to work through any specific challenges you may have. In addition, those working as volunteers or experience consultants at Queer World will be offered support sessions, which can be a valuable tool for self-care and professional development.
The workshops start on 21 August and will take place every Wednesday from 17:00 - 19:00. Through 12 workshops, with three scheduled breaks, we will spend the next 15 weeks together in a supportive and inclusive environment. In addition, there will be an offer to join a support group for the following four weeks, giving you an opportunity to continue developing the skills you have learnt.
Date: Wednesday 21 August
Time: 17:00-19:00
Address: Torggata 1 (Skeiv Verden), 6th floor
This is a unique opportunity to take part in a process that can change how you experience and handle life. Whether you want to learn how to manage stress better, improve your social skills, or just want to be part of a community that understands your experiences, these workshops are for you.
