Skeiv Verdens International Conference

This year's conference is set for the 4th of November in Oslo (and will be streamed digitally)

The conference is a space where we discuss intersectional topics on our own terms.
Each year we gather experts from different fields to share their experiences and knowledge about working intersectionally.
This year, the theme for the conference is intersectionality and migration.
This conference is for anyone who wants to be a part of an engaging and educational community!

Intersectionality and migration

Intersectionality is a key framework to understand how different identites interact, when faced with society's mechanisms of inclusion and exclusion. This impacts what opportunities we have to live good lives. Through an intersectional approach to migration, we can create a more equal world, for everyone. Intersectionality is complex, because it complicates reality. We believe that this is a strength of the intersectional framework: it allows us to see the complexity of the reality we ourselves and others live in. Without intersectionality, we risk our lives being reduced to one-dimensional narratives, and crucial nuances are lost.

About Skeiv Verden

A member-based organisation

Skeiv Verden is a member-based interest organisation for and by lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex and queer people with an ethnic or religious minority background in Norway. We are an independent, non-religious and non-partisan organization with an overall goal of improving the living conditions of our target group.

Our target group is diverse; it is made up of asylum seekers, refugees, migrant workers, students, adoptees, family reunification, and Norwegian-born people with minority background, religious and non-religious persons. Our target group's identities break with norms for gender, sexuality, ethnicity, ability, and Norwegianness - and many are particularly vulnerable to experiencing negative social control, honor-related violence, discrimination, hate crime, mental illness, and more related to the minority stress of not experiencing equity within public services. We utilize an intersectional perspective in all of our work.

Pioneers and experts within minority topics and intersectionality will be speaking at this year's conference
