Support

Counselling and therapy

Skeiv Verden has extensive experience with providing help to queer people with a minority background how find themselves in difficult life circumstances. There are several ways you can get help from us:

  1. Practical counselling. We can assist you in contact with public services, such as The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI), Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration (NAV), your general practitioner (e.g. your doctor/GP) and other public health services.
  2. Individual therapy. In Skeiv Verden we have clinical psychologists and professional therapists. You can talk with us about topics such as your identity, belonging to several minority groups simultaneously and mental health challenges. As a start, we offer up to 12 therapy sessions, and then we evaluate together whether the therapy should be continued or discontinued, or if the best solution is to refer you to a public psychologist.
  3. Group therapy. Skeiv Verden has several group offers throughout the year. The groups are safe spaces where you can learn skills for better emotional regulation together with others.

The ABCs of Queer World is a four-day seminar for people who are queer and newly arrived in Norway. The seminar teaches you how to take care of yourself and others. You can talk to others about different types of relationships, learn about sexual health, and how to create healthy relationships, intimacy and make love and sex safer. We'll have lunch and dinner together every day, and you'll have the opportunity to make new friendships.

Having said that, our competence-building work is partly supported by public funds and we have the opportunity to hold some courses free of charge. We don't want finances to stand in the way of spreading queer knowledge!

What kind of expertise does the healthcare team have?

Skeiv Verden's health team consists of an authorised psychologist and three psychotherapists with psychological training from abroad.
