About us

Queer World is a clear and visible player in the LGBTIQ+ movement,
and our overall goal is to constantly improve living conditions for our target group.
ABOUT US

Our organisation

Queer World started as a project under the auspices of Foreningen FRI and was formally established as an independent organisation in 2010. Our creation as an independent organisation stems from the desire for an organisation that can support LGBTIQ+ people with minority backgrounds through social meeting places where we constitute the majority. Today, Queer World is a community where we can share experiences, challenges and where we have the opportunity to be ourselves fully.

Our vision

A society in which everyone, regardless of their ethnic or religious origin, can live out their sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression without experiencing discrimination.

Our mission

Work purposefully with knowledge dissemination and visibility through dedicated and committed volunteers, members, contributors, partners and the secretariat.

SAFETY

We are a safe organisation

Local organisations and networks

We have formal local chapters in Oslo, Western Norway, Rogaland and Central Norway, as well as networks in several parts of the country. We are grateful for the efforts put into our work by people outside the Skeiv Verden membership group.

Safe society

We are an autonomous, religiously and politically independent organisation that works purposefully for a society where everyone can live out their sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression without experiencing discrimination.

Safe meeting places

We focus on offering good, safe meeting places where you can get in touch with others who have similar experiences and get support and knowledge that makes it easier to be queer with a minority background.

Volunteers and members

Our volunteers and members have many different minority backgrounds. The target group is not uniform and includes asylum seekers, labour migrants, adoptees, students and Norwegian-born people with minority backgrounds.

PARTNERS

We work with the best

Skeiv Verden works to ensure that queer people with minority backgrounds can live full and free lives. To this end, we collaborate with many organisations, such as FRI, Queer Youth and the various Pride festivals in Norway. We also work with the Anti-Racist Centre, SEIF, the Norwegian Helsinki Committee, Amnesty, Minotenk, HivNorge and PION. By collaborating and standing together, we are able to achieve better results for our target groups. Together we are stronger.

Skeiv Verden receives funding from Oslo Municipality and Bærum Municipality for the operation of the local Skeiv Verden Oslo chapter, the realisation of activities in Oslo and the surrounding area, as well as competence-building measures for students at adult education for adult immigrants, primary and secondary schools.

Skeiv Verden receives funding from Bergen Municipality for the operation of the local chapter Skeiv Verden Vest and the realisation of activities in Bergen Municipality.

Skeiv Verden receives funding from IMDi for competence-building measures for residents at asylum centres and in adult education for immigrants. We also receive funding for a national counselling service and for information work in schools nationwide.

Queer World receives funding from the Norwegian Directorate of Health for substance abuse prevention and work to promote good sexual health in our target group.

Queer World receives funding from the Ministry of Justice and Public Security for discussion groups and other measures to prevent violence in close relationships among our target group.

Skeiv Verden receives support from Bufdir for operating funds for Skeiv Verden as an LGBTIQ+ organisation.
